Where did February go? Not that I mind, really. I am not a winter-sort of human. Dark and cold days are not for me (nor is heat and humidity, so I am fine, living here in the Pacific Northwest). March is around the corner, and I am feeling motivated! Have I mentioned that I am an avid gardener with a big and complicated property to manage? I have been splitting my time between gardening and writing, depending on the Oregon weather. Here is my update about the latter…
My two next novels are simmering on the back burner while I edit and modernize a 125-year-old recipe book I mentioned in my last post. I might have underestimated my project, but that is because I want it to be better than a re-scan of the same book. Some recipes are treasures that I am sure you will want to make, and some will go into the “for the adventurous” chapter. Most will need a little more explanation, although I don’t have time to try each and every dish in my own kitchen. The dessert recipes are definitely tempting — I might get to most of those! And there is a lemon cream pie recipe that I know my grandmother made from this cookbook.
Cookbook, or cook book? Part of the project’s delay is deciding how much of the wording should be brought into the 21st century without losing the charm of the old text. And which fonts to use? I put the little cartoon above because readers really do criticize the book fonts. I hope nobody has a complaint about mine. They will be thoroughly contemplated and will match the mood and theme of this book perfectly. ~ Jillian
