If you were looking for my latest post on twitter, although I don’t expect you were, I deleted my account last week. I took the twitter apps off my devices, and I didn’t get the shakes without them.
It feels great to be twitterless!
Not that my screen was overwhelmed with negativity, like many give as their reason for leaving the popular site. My twitter feed had become an endless list of questions (what should I eat tonight–pizza or steak?), random polls (how dark do you like your toast?), and selfie-photos from strangers I know nothing about nor do I care to. It seemed like twitter was becoming a place where followers revived their middle-school angst.
Twitter was stealing my time and cluttering my thoughts. Do I have an opinion on the color yellow? Yes. Would this random person look better with bangs? She would. Should I comment on it? No!
Why delete twitter over that? The final straw for me was Elon Musk taking away twitter’s account security. To get it back, I, you, we could buy his blue check mark for $8/month and all is well. I understand Elon paid a lot of money to gain control of America’s most used social media company. I understand it is expensive to run such a company, and it needs to somehow generate revenue. But not from me. I don’t need this distraction.
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu…
I hope you, too, drop one more of your brain-fuddling apps and are happy about it, like I am. Enjoy! ~ Jillian
